WE ARE SOLD OUT
A WEEK OF UNAPOLOGETIC QUEER JOY.
It’s a rough year to be queer.
Come release the stress, recoup and re-juice through play, relaxation, nature, Iyengar yoga, and somatic healing in community! Shift from fragmented survival into resourced DELIGHT.
Stretch out and breathe
for 7 days, 6 nights at Mixto, a gorgeous private retreat where a clear green river meets the warm, turquoise sea. Take a short boat ride south of lovely, gay Puerto Vallarta to our sunny secluded sanctuary.
Here, join celebrated space holders Avery Kalapa, Kiki Williams and G Tiarachristie and an amazing circle of QTs in intersectional paradise! We gather with intention. As part of creating a dynamic brave space of belonging, our QT retreats invite at least 50% BIPOC and 50% trans / non-binary participation. Come unfold alongside others who, like you, have been through a lot and are ready to give themselves permission to rest, expand, breathe, laugh and yes, receive. To lean into delight!
Dissolve away stress, replenish deeply. Both spiritually deep, emotionally transformative, and lighthearted and fun, be amazed how good you can feel. Practice affirming, trauma informed Iyengar yoga, meditation, and somatics in an open air studio surrounded by an oxygen-rich jungle and birdsong. Nature adventures, relaxation, laughter… oh, and the food is AMAZING. We dine family style, each meal is a delicious celebration. There’s time to journal, pull tarot, nap, swim in the ocean, river, or pool, get a massage, savor some alone time, or connect in community. Let your senses guide you…This is a space to honor your heart’s truest yes.
Let’s get weird and get free!
Discover what brings delight, here, now. Delight as a boundary against all that is trying to make us small and scared.
“Being surrounded by trans people all week was pure medicine.”
“I feel a deep connection to the most inner parts of my body and an openness which I can access easily, now, afterwards. There is a warmth coming from an inner well, a well of joy.”
“The care and consideration, a space where the BIPOC numbers were higher than the white people…People were so comfortable being themselves. I loved how free we were during the mermaid party.”
“This is a life changing event. A place of inclusion and love. Your heart will be lifted to heights of joy, bliss and delight!”
“I loved this retreat, I learned so much about myself and my capability for connection and gratitude.”
“Joy is a newer experience for me. This week included so many moments of joy. Little things like the morning juices, to huge things like watching the sun rise on one side of the sky while the moon sets on the other. Most significant, feeling completeness in my physical transformation.”
DELIGHT AS SACRED REBELLION
In these scary times, nourishing your body, mind and self in affirming community is strategic.
It’s protection, resilience, and strength.
Our truth is powerful and our love is revolutionary. No one can take that away.
WHY DO PEOPLE EXPERIENCE SUCH POWERFUL GOODNESS AT OUR RETREATS?
The Space
We cannot WAIT to return to Mixto! Our QT reteats are like nothing else. Like a private gay island, the luxury and seclusion of Mixto’s tropical haven is a space designed for integration, play, and reclamation of joy.
Sadly many yoga spaces – much less bougie beachfront retreats – are not welcoming to folks like us. Many of us are used to scrappy, DIY community care and while making treasure out of trash is a rad queer form of alchemy, we want our community to get to experience the transformative serenity, care, and nourishment of a lush, high quality retreat.
To make such a place a queer trans space is its own disruptive medicine. Come enjoy – You are so worthy of this luscious healing immersion!
Community
Healing in community is powerful and MAGICAL! We’re not meant to heal and grow in isolation. So much is possible when we gather with skillful intention and reverence.
Queer community is precious, yes, but can be fraught. The “not belonging” wound is tender. Let’s experiment with what belonging actually means, and feels like, together.
We need spaces that honor nuance and complexity.
This is a retreat designed to cherish the parts of you that are a work in progress. It’s for our full-on, fluid, brave, tender, work-in-progress, weirdo, queer selves. What if there was nothing to prove?
A big part of any retreat is the people on the journey with you.
And you will be in SUCH good company! The connections we make through affirming kinship allow a deeper sense of wholeness and self love.
A Non-binary Approach: Tender Depth AND Gaycation
This is a space rich with the both/and. Our work together honors the grief, our struggle, our shadow material. When we honor the parts of us that are exhausted, stuck, and shamed, we can experience freedom, delight, and joy.
This retreat goes deep, and also will be SO MUCH FUN!
Re-source your capacity and learn new tools for nervous system regulation, stress reduction, and how to access a sense of inner peace through whatever life brings.
Deep Rest
Sometimes we don’t know how much we’re really carrying until we can *actually* let loose and relax.
Give yourself permission to untangle the inner knots, relax deeply. Awaken to a deeper authentic expression and lean into delight!
Many of us are working to dismantle systems of harm; part of that work is imagining, building, and experiencing in real time what we are working to cultivate.
Liberation, belonging, inner freedom . . . what does it feel like for you?
Relational Mindfulness
The body and the earth are powerhouses of wisdom. Come explore practices that invite curiosity and open up fresh ways of knowing, communicating, and connecting with auhenticity.
Through meditation, stillness practices, fun dyads, intuitive movement games, story time, and ritual, gain fluency in the subtle languages of your body, your senses, and the land, plants, and spaces we move through.
These innovative healing techniques are a perfect compliment to traditional yoga. You’ll gain an amazing skillset for simple, playful home practices for mindfulness and creativity.
Who knew somatic healing could be so full of laughter, play, tender connection? Expland your capacity for delight.
Iyengar Yoga Lineage
We’ll be practicing Iyengar Yoga, including asana (postural yoga) on this retreat to unveil what is within and beyond the physical. Alignment-based asana is an incredible gateway to transform mind and perception and to experience new relationships with self and consciousness.
Inspiring philosophy, pranayama, and FUNctional asana await! At times rigorous, playful, restorative, therapeutic – you’ll be in good hands while learning empowering new ways to explore yoga.
Rewire your nervous system, super charge your vital systems, bring soothing release. We center accessibility, stability, and reorganization that honors the divine design of your body.
QUEER & TRANS FOLKS DESERVE EASE, REST, SPACE TO JUST BE.
And that includes you, sweet one. Come play!
A Retreat by Us, for Us
We’re into queer spirituality, not spiritual bypass. A form of grassroots organizing, this emergent space has been crafted with care to center healing that is inclusive, dynamic, and brave. When we’re relaxed and connected to others, it’s a gift that flows in all directions.

Retreat Location
Villa Mixto is perfect for our retreat! We LOVE this place, and cannot wait to return. A beachfront retreat space in the small village of Quimixto south of Puerto Vallarta, it’s an ideal haven that is both luxurious and peaceful. Like all the nearby villages and beaches, this secluded spot is only accessible by boat!
We’ll be the only group there, which is huge in creating a brave space that feels safe. We can spread out in our own private yoga shala, pool, and hang out spots.
There’s huge ancient trees, flowers bursting with color, kittens, roosters, iguanas, and tons of cool birds and butterflies. We can wade, lounge and swim in the beautiful river. The beach is very swimmable, since Mixto is in a huge cove.
Last year a turtle came and laid her eggs under the full moon right next to Mixto, it was so magical.
Mixto is part of a larger nearby retreat center, Xinalani. They designed Mixto for private, more intimate retreats, like ours. Owned and built by a Mexican couple, Xinalani is an integrated part of the local community of Quimixto; they take the local kids to upper grade school in Puerto Vallarta on their boats, and provide the infrastrute for clean water. Many of the staff are locals who have been involved for decades. We were welcomed and cared for with such warmth and kindness.
Tourism is complex. It’s a wild time to be alive. Let’s explore together how to be in a mutually beneficial, respectful relationship with the places, plants, animals and people we visit. We are honored and excited to return to this special place.
Release Your Self-Worth Baggage
We see you out there, uplifting others and donating to mutual aid, but struggling to find time and money for your own much needed self-care.
Investing in your health and happiness by attending a beachfront yoga retreat can feel like a brave stretch (pun intended!). “Who am I to experience rest, healing, and pleasure when the world is on fire, injustice everywhere?”
If you’re asking this, great. Because we’ve designed this exactly for gems like you. The system wins when we run ourselves ragged. Retreats aren’t the only way to relax, but they are an amazing support if you’re ready for a deep loving reset.
We affirm each other’s worth and wholeness when we gather together for play, healing, and joy!
You know self care and community care are interconnected, that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Allowing yourself to experience this in and of itself is a radical healing process.
Queer Joy Empowers Collective Change
This deep care, healing, play, and relaxation will have very real positive ripple effects – not only for you, but for all you’re connected to.
Let’s explore living into the liberated future our radical imaginations dream of right here, right now.
This retreat is a uniquely inclusive, warm, luscious environment for 2SLGBTQIAA+ from diverse social locations to gather for yoga, healing pleasure, and rest as a sacred way to deeply replenish, connect us to our purpose, and through that, catalyze positive transformation in our collective world.
The Way We Practice Is Different
Come as you are.
Feel stronger, more grounded, fluid and open. Regulate your nervous system as you discover stability and softness through the beautiful lineage of Iyengar Yoga. We’ll also explore meditation, morning silence, somatic practice, relational and nature based mindfulness, play, and deep relaxation in a workshop format.
Maybe the idea of “being more in your body” seems edgy, even if it’s something you want to explore. Don’t worry, your body challenges won’t hold you back from experiencing the retreat. In fact, how we explore embodiment and functional alignment will help you get relief, sleep better, and have less pain.
New to yoga? Been practicing for decades? That’s great! Classes are designed for who’s present. Whether you need challenge, adaptive, restorative, each practice will be customized for your needs.
This is an invitation to explore radical sovereignty and self-compassion within your own body and mind. Non-harming (ahimsa) is foundational. Let’s practice together with reverence, courage, and delight!
Delight your senses, nourish your vitality
Vibrant, rich, nourishing food loaded with local flavor will be a memorable highlight of this trip. Our customized menu will have options available to accommodate your dietary needs, such as plant based, gluten-free, animal protein, and more.
There’s also fresh coconuts and specialty drinks available! We pull the visible alcohol from the on-sight bar to make it a more welcoming space for sober folks, but alcoholic drinks are available, too.
Incredible Meals Together
Delicious, fresh, healthy, creative – every meal here is a colorful feast.
Mixto’s food game is SO over the top!
Savor the incredible fresh flavors of this unique region. We’ll enjoy slow meals together, family style, in a beautiful setting, with gratitude. From fresh juices and salsas to plated desserts, meals at Mixto are a true celebration.
Room Options
Mixto’s features 5 stylish, comfortable ocean view rooms with AC. Each room has a private bathroom, a kettle for tea, and clean drinking water. You’ll have your own bed, or share with your partner. Sorry – no single or double occupancy rooms are available. Each room will have 3 or 4 people – but we do a LOT to ensure you have the best roommates! With our equity pricing, each level provides an equally amazing room option.

Kiki Williams
(she/they)
Kiki is a black, queer teacher, meditator, yogi, outdoors enthusiast and dancer from Los Angeles, CA, unceded Tongva land. They’re a 500hr-RYT and have facilitated yoga spaces for QT folx for several years. They manage retreats at Big Bear Retreat Center, and are an integral part of Octavia’s Bookshelf in LA. Both a movement and mindfulness practitioner, Kiki offers an innovative, affirming approach to these modalities to support a fully-embodied approach to both individual and collective healing.
Kiki’s sessions skillfully weave together meditation, intuitive movement, connection building with community and nature, play, somatics, story, poetry, inspiration from movements for Black Liberation, rest, and authenticity.
Kiki finds deep resonance with the Theravadan Buddhist meditation practice she’s had for the past 10 years. With this practice, Kiki’s facilitation has slowly oriented over time towards the integration of more stillness—creating the space to access all of the senses to experience this generous, magical world we inhabit.
To Kiki, healing looks like remembering, feeling fully, being curious about dark corners, remembering again, and mining the heart for the wells of love that reside there.
She is propelled by the belief that all people have the innate right to thrive, experience unmitigated joy, and be free, beginning with the freedom we each have in the capacity to feel in and through our own bodies and minds.

“Gift this to yourself. It will be an experience that gives to you beyond the time you are physically present at the retreat. It’s more than a vacation. It’s an invitation to return to yourself. To slow down. To be present. To just be. The framework and pedagogy Avery & Kiki used to curate this retreat is queer affirming, loving, and expansive.” – Whit Hanley

Plan to take 2 Covid tests prior to the Retreat, one 3 days before travel, and one within 24 hours of your departing flight (or arrival to Mixto, if you’re already in the PVR area.)
I’m trans, is it safe for me to travel?
I have accessibility needs. Can I come?
We encourage you to reach out if you have specific accessibility needs or questions. Classes will be adaptive, and trauma informed; everything we offer is optional. But they will include physical movements such as getting up and down from the floor. Classes will be taught in English. Visiting Mixto requires riding a boat, walking up stairs, and walking on uneven ground. We will be in heat and humidity.
Are all the meals included?
Yes. Options for meat or plant based, gluten free. Dietary restrictions will be accommodated as much as possible. If you have strict dietary restrictions, please share that in your registration.
Do I have to do everything the group does?
Nope! We are into consent, agency and listening to what you need. Everything we offer is optional, except opening and closing circles. In class, there’s always alternative set ups, ways of working, and options available.
What’s the scene with substances and alcohol on these retreats?
We are honored to have sober queers on retreat with us, and want this to be a space that feels good for people in recovery. However, it is a mixed space where many people do not drink, but some people have an alcoholic drink, here and there, usually with dinner. We also want it to be as much as possible, a shame-free space, where we trust people’s agency. We pull the visible alcohol from the on-sight bar to make it a more welcoming space for sober folks. In the past, people have self organized AA/ Universal Recovery meetings and those have been well attended and appreciated; we encourage these meetings if you’d like to create that space. If you have requests for how to support your attendance as a sober person, email us. Some people bring and quietly use medical marijuana; please note marijuana is NOT legal in Mexico. There is no smoking allowed at Mixto, indoors or outdoors. Generally we are focused on healing and health. We do not support participants using recreational drugs. Getting intoxicated on retreat is not allowed, and may lead to you having to leave the retreat early, without a refund. If you struggle with an addiction, or use a large amount of daily marijuana in order to cope, and are unsure if the space is right for you but want to attend, we invite you to share about your situation in the application.
What’s your refund policy?
There are no refunds, transfers or discounts for cancellations, illness, arriving late, leaving early, or travel snafus. If you cancel your participation in the retreat for any reason, this cancellation policy applies. As soon as a deposit is made, these funds are used to secure your trip, and paid to the retreat center, which is what the majority of each ticket goes towards; these fees are due to retreat organizers many months in advance. Payments to retreat centers by organizers are nonrefundable, as the livelihood of the local staff relies on secure income. We are grateful to travel to special places and respect their policies. TRAVEL INSURANCE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. In our current Covid era it should be considered a given for any international travel.
In the unlikely event that we must cancel due to natural disaster, illness, etc, we cannot guarantee a refund – however, we will reschedule the retreat!
Do I need a passport? Yes.
Am I queer enough? Yes.
Still have questions? Want to inquire about a scholarship or make a donation to support QTBIPOC access? We’d love to hear from you!
